I absolutely love how my self portrait turned out. I love that I used 2 different mediums to create this. I used prisma colored pencil for the majority of the picture and on the parts of the picture that included chalk I used chalk pastel colored pencils. I've never used the chalk pencils before but because my face was covered in real chalk I thought it would give the piece a more realistic look and texture. I had so much fun playing with how to use the chalk pencils because it's easy to smear then and blend them to exactly how you want. From this I learned that I need to watch how I am applying the colored pencil onto the paper. You can see the pencil marks and the direction that I applied the color on. The straight lines contradicted the movement and shape of my face. If I apply and use the blending pencil in little swirls the texture seems to work and look better for skin. My favorite part of this picture is my shirt. I think that it looks very realistic. I really enjoyed doing this portrait. I think that I will attempt to do another portrait to fit into my concentration. Overall I think this is one of my most successful pieces yet. I surprised myself with what I am capable of.
