Apple with Paintbrush
This was my very first attempt painting with oils. I loved them from the second I started. I loved how soft the paints seemed and that they stayed wet. They seemed to blend so effortlessly. At first I was over mixing but once I got the hang of things I think it turned out pretty good. For a first time I would think that I did a good job. If I could change something about it I would most likely get some more highlights to brighten up the apple and the surface that it is on. There is plenty of room for improvement but I enjoyed using oil paints and i will be definitely using them in some of my art pieces this year.
Apple with Palette Knife
I did not enjoy painting with the palette knife at all. It was so hard to control the way that the paint was applied to the canvas. It seemed very messy and I got very frustrated because the palette didn't do exactly what I wanted to do, like a paint brush would. It was hard to make clean brush strokes. If I accidentally applied too much pressure to one side it might scrape some off of the canvas so i had to be gentle. I will not being doing any of my pieces this year with a palette knife. I tried it once, and that is good enough for me.
