INside the Batter's Box
My boyfriend, Damian, plays baseball and I attend most of his games. I loved the idea of showing me visiting and watching the game. This is by far one of my favorite and best pieces. I love the composition of it. Although Damian is in the middle of the piece the perspective of the fence, and having it at and angle looks very nice. I had a lot of fun doing this piece. The colors were vibrant and the highlights and shadows really just made the piece. Most of the piece is colored pencil, but any part that is dirt is chalk pastel pencils. I've had a lot of success in the past using chalk pastel pencils (in my self portrait) and I loved the idea of being able to smear the chalk so the white circle he is standing in blends in nicely. The fence was the biggest challenge in this piece. I saved the fence for last so that I could focus on coloring the picture without worrying that the color of the fence would smear into the background. I got frustrated at the end in the bottom right hand corner because the fence was blurred in the picture and I couldn't see exactly where the lines in the fence were. Overall this is one of my best pieces. I will be duplicating it for Creech Chiropractic but I have learned the do's and dont's of this piece and I feel it will turn out even better.
